Process redesign for the 2026 NSW workers compensation reforms

The NSW workers compensation legislative reform 2026 changed how primary psychological injury claims are triaged, assessed and determined from 1 July 2026. A national workers compensation and personal injury claims manager needed its impacted internal processes documented and redesigned, and its stakeholders aligned, before commencement.

Sprq Point delivered a short-term, fixed-scope engagement: stakeholder workshops, current and future state analysis, and process mapping in Microsoft Visio, under a statement of work with explicit exclusions and defined revision boundaries. When scheme-level shared services arrangements reshaped the intended future state mid-engagement, the future state maps were revised to reflect the new operating context. Because formal process mapping was new to many participants, Sprq Point also developed a process mapping reference guide and delivered training sessions so stakeholders could contribute confidently.

All deliverables were completed by end April 2026, ahead of the agreed engagement end date and the legislative commencement, in 49 hours of effort including agreed additional scope.

Timetabling system replacement

A large Australian university's legacy timetabling system (Syllabus Plus) was no longer fit for purpose and posed operational risk to a business-critical annual process. Data collection was manual and spreadsheet-based, and the replacement had to be ready to build the 2026 timetable.

As lead business analyst, Andrew led requirements gathering and process design from requirements through to go-live, including redesign of the school data collection process into an in-system workflow. He defined integration requirements, facilitated user acceptance testing, and audited every teaching space across the university, standardising the underlying asset data and its governance.

The SaaS solution (Schedule+ and Rooms+) replaced manual spreadsheet-based data collection with in-system workflows, introduced auto-scheduling, delivered more than 40 integrations across upstream and downstream systems, and gave staff and students a modern ad hoc room booking capability.

Delivered on schedule for the 2026 timetable, an outcome stakeholders singled out given the complexity of a business-critical implementation. Forecast staff time savings of approximately 2,000 hours per timetabling cycle across data collection, scheduling, review and rollover workflows.

Adverse circumstances system implementation

Student adverse circumstances applications at a large Australian university ran through an ageing .NET application with largely manual processing, creating workload pressure on the central governance team, reliance on casual staff, and slow turnaround for students. The replacement had to be live for Semester 1, 2025.

As lead business analyst, Andrew designed the eligibility rules and business logic behind the automation, including the controls determining when requests are auto-approved versus routed for human decision. He designed the custom LTI integration between the new ServiceNow platform and the Canvas LMS, delivered with a specialist integration vendor, and facilitated system configuration, user acceptance testing and user training across two implementation partners.

The solution delivered automated approval of around 50% of short-term extension requests, real-time update of assessment due dates in Canvas on approval, and SLA-based escalation workflows. Deployed for Semester 1, 2025, with an estimated saving of 15 minutes per auto-approved request and reduced reliance on casual staff. Student satisfaction with the process rose from 68.5% to 83% in the year following go-live.

Secure software delivery for Defence

Defence clients required continuous delivery and enhancement of enterprise applications on secure Defence networks, under strict security accreditation and NV2 protocols. Many software providers struggle to deliver at pace in that environment.

Andrew managed the daily operations of software development teams delivering applications spanning asset and maintenance management, task and project management, workforce planning and resourcing, enterprise risk management, and finance and budgeting. The role covered resource allocation, budget management and Agile delivery across multiple concurrent teams, within Defence change and security management frameworks.

The teams sustained a monthly production release cadence across the application suite, with iterative releases through integration and user acceptance testing environments on Defence infrastructure.

Mainframe financial system migration

A legacy mainframe financial system sat at the centre of a major Australian general insurer's payments operation: creating, authorising, reconciling and transmitting payment files to financial institutions. Key-person risk on scarce mainframe skills, ongoing platform cost and integration complexity made replacement necessary, without disrupting a high-volume, high-consequence financial process.

Over a two-year phased business transformation, Andrew owned requirements, future state process design, reconciliation and control design, and migration and cutover artefacts as senior business systems analyst. He facilitated user acceptance testing, delivered end-user training, and supported change communications through transition.

The outcome: a streamlined end-to-end payment file process with strengthened controls and documentation across the operation, including financial general ledger balancing and reconciliation, migrated in phases to the new platform.

Learning management system transformation

With its Blackboard contract ending, a large Australian university committed to a full LMS transformation to Canvas, touching every course, academic and student. Final grading was a known pain point: every college and school manually extracted grades from the LMS and imported them into the student information system via spreadsheets.

As lead business analyst across the transformation, Andrew translated business needs into actionable specifications, managed vendor relationships through delivery, and led the analysis and design of the automated final grade integration between the Canvas Grade Book and the student information system.

The result was a real-time grade integration replacing spreadsheet-based extract and import: coordinators initiate grade upload directly from Canvas, administrative codes are applied in-system, every grade change is audit-tracked, and workflow stages give visibility of grading status across all colleges and schools. Canvas was live for the 2022 academic year, with the grades integration operational from the January 2022 grading period.
